Best Authority Premium and Light Edition Licensing
This is an informal summary of Best Authority Licensing and Pricing. The exact terms of the license are contained in the Best Authority End User License Agreement (EULA).
Best Authority is not licensed based on the number of PCs on which it is installed. It is licensed per organization, based on the total number of litigators and appellate attorneys. This may include attorneys in departments other than litigation -- such as labor, intellectual property, etc., and under certain circumstances, paralegals doing attorney-like work.
Once your organization has purchased the required license, Best Authority may be installed on any number of PCs, and run by any member of your firm or its staff. In addition, it may be used without charge for certain de minimis purposes (for example: if a paralegal is preparing a table of authorities for a class he or she is taking at law school, or a non-litigator attorney is filing an appeal pro bono.)
Best Authority Light Edition Pricing
Best Authority Light Edition is offered at a flat rate of $225 per litigator. There are no volume or other discounts. If you purchase Light Edition and subsequently upgrade to Premium Edition, you will be credited with 100% of your original purchase price. Software Subscription Service
Levit & James, Inc. offers an annual Software Subscription Service (SSS) for all editions of Best Authority. The price for SSS is 20% of the current volume-discounted list price of the product. Best Authority includes 30 days of SSS at no charge. SSS is automatically billed annually on the anniversary of the purchase. SSS includes the following:
· Technical Support
· All software product updates
· All updates to the Best Authority database of tables and rules.
Customers who decline to purchase SSS, or let their SSS lapse for more than 30 days, need to renew retroactively with a 50% penalty when they wish to upgrade the software.
Purchasing Additional Licenses
When your organization adds litigators, you will need to purchase additional licenses. If the number of new licenses required is less than 10% of existing licenses, you can purchase the new licenses at the same time as you renew the SSS. If the number of licenses required is greater than 10% of the existing licenses, the new licenses will need to be purchased immediately.
