Best Authority Global Template Update for Word 2007/2010
Issue
The Levit & James digital signature used on the BESTAUTH.DOTM global Word template will expire on 6/19/2011. Therefore, if you are using Word 2007 or 2010, then depending on your security settings, Best Authority may become disabled when you launch Word.
Who is Affected
- Anyone running BOTH Word 2007 (or 2010) AND Best Authority Version 2.7.050 through 2.7.118 AND employing the BESTAUTH.DOTM global template. To verify that you are running with the BESTAUTH.DOTM template, check the Word Startup folder (see folder locations below).
Who is Not Affected
- Anyone running the latest version of Best Authority (2.7.200 (SP 2) as of 3/25/2011)
- Anyone running with the BESTAUTH.DOT template
- Anyone running Word 2003 or earlier
- Anyone running any version of Best Authority version 2.6 or earlier
Resolution
There are two options:
- (Recommended) Upgrade Best Authority to Version 2.7 SP2 or later. This version contains not only the updated signature for the Best Authority global templates, but also contains fixes and enhancements in addition to the new “co-counsel” feature. Click here to obtain this download.
NOTE: You will need to log into the L&J portal after clicking on the link for the new version. After you download the file, run the setup kit to upgrade your Best Authority software and implement the newly-signed template.
- The exact same version of the BESTAUTH.DOTM template with an updated digital signature is also available. Click on the link below to download this file. See below for instructions on where to copy the newly-signed template.

How to Manually Install the Template
Once you have downloaded the BESTAUTH.DOTM template, copy it into the Word Startup folder, overwriting the existing file. If you have installed Best Authority for all users on the workstation, then the startup folder is in the Office program folder:
%PROGRAMFILES%\Microsoft Office\Office12\Startup (Word 2007)
%PROGRAMFILES%\Microsoft Office\Office14\Startup (Word 2010)
Otherwise, the Startup folder defaults to the Microsoft\Word\Startup under the user’s profile folder:
%APPDATA%\Microsoft\Word\Startup (Check File Locations in Word for exact location)
